چکیده

Even without sensory input, an animal can estimate how far it hasmovedby integrating its velocity, a process called path integration. The entorhinal cortex (EC) and hippocampus seem to be involved in path integration, and in an animal’s perceived location in space. However, path integration is highly susceptible to accumulating errors. A real animal avoids this problem by incorporating sensory input (e.g. vision) and updating its perceived position. The best path integration models do not yet incorporate this sensory-updating feature. In this paper, we extend one suchmodel to enable sensory updating, and demonstrate its effectiveness in a series of computer simulations of spiking neural-network models.

Spatial representations of place cells in darkness are supported by path integration and border information

Effective spatial navigation is enabled by reliable reference cues that derive from sensory information from the external environment, as well as from internal sources such as the vestibular system. The integration of information from these sources enables dead reckoning in the form of path integration. Navigation in the dark is associated with the accumulation of errors in terms of perception ...

Sensory Integration and Autistic Spectrum Disorder

The theory and practice of sensory integration were developed in the late 1960s by an occupational therapist and psychologist, Dr. A. Jean Ayres [1]. Also, known as sensory processing, it is “the neurological process that organizes sensation from one’s own body and from the environment and makes it possible to use the body effectively within the environment” [1].

Path integration: effect of curved path complexity and sensory system on blindfolded walking.

Path integration refers to the ability to integrate continuous information of the direction and distance traveled by the system relative to the origin. Previous studies have investigated path integration through blindfolded walking along simple paths such as straight line and triangles. However, limited knowledge exists regarding the role of path complexity in path integration. Moreover, little...
